Mr. Rollman began his Engineering career in 1984 with 3M's Electrical Engineering Department in St. Paul, MN. He was responsible for the design of power distribution systems, process controls installation design, lighting, and grounding systems in many 3M manufacturing and office facilities. He developed and taught technical courses on Short Circuit Fault Analysis in Industrial Power Systems and NEC Power Systems Design. In addition, he has developed engineering application programs in the areas of Construction Estimating, Industrial Process Control Wiring and Device Interrupting Analysis based on NEMA and ANSI standards.
Tim was one of Excel's founding partners when the firm began its operations in August 1990. He is a Minnesota Class "A" Master Electrician, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree Magna Cum Laude in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and has a Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of Saint Thomas. Since 1983, Mr. Niedermann has been responsible for the design of various electrical systems for commercial and industrial clients. These systems have included power distribution, lighting, and process maker installation design on projects up to $1.2 million. Gary has extensive experience in monitoring electrical contractors as a field service representative on 3M sites and has been involved with start-up and commissioning of 3M process maker lines. He is highly qualified in all aspects of electrical project design including project management, scheduling, and follow-up through construction. Gary was one of Excel's founding partners when he joined the firm in January 1991. He received his certification from the Electrical Design for Construction Program at Anoka Technical College of Minnesota in 1983.
Brent is a Principal Designer for Excel Engineering. He has performed and overseen hundreds of arc flash, short circuit and coordination studies. He is experienced in electrical design for both commercial and industrial clients, including medium voltage and low voltage power distribution, lighting, and wiring for process electrical controls. Brent has completed the design and programming of medium voltage relay protection for large industrial complexes. His career began as an AutoCAD operator with Rochester (MN) Public Utilities. From there, he worked as a contract employee for 3M and has been with Excel Engineering, Inc. since 1991.
Manager, Power System Studies and Electrical Safety
Michael Nye has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Dakota and has worked at Excel Engineering for the past 10 years performing projects involving transmission system studies, arc flash hazard assessments, and process electrical design. He is part of the power systems studies group and mainly focuses on arc flash, short circuit and coordination studies. As part of these studies, he is also involved with on-site data collection and providing recommendations for arc flash mitigation. Mike has also helped develop macros to help detect modeling errors and keep consistency with the reports that are delivered to the clients. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota.
Principal Consultant, Controls and Instrumentation
Charles Amann is a professionally qualified control systems engineer with over 21 years experience in the areas of automation design, implementation, and system software. His particular areas of expertise include control system design and project engineering; project and construction management; SCADA system engineering; programmable logic controllers (PLC); AC and DC drive control for web handling equipment; batch process feed systems, weigh belt feeders; and electrical design for hazardous areas and explosion proof equipment.
Prior to joining Excel Engineering, he worked 17 years as a Senior Systems Engineering Consultant for EMA, Inc. where he was lead engineer and project manager for control system design and implementation projects for both private sector manufacturing and municipal water companies. Among his projects were several large scale web handling machine rebuilds and new installations for 3M and other specialty web coating customers. These included design and configuration of software for web handling equipment using multiple high speed AC and DC drives, steppers, or servos. He was also responsible for SCADA installation, implementation, and construction management for several municipal water utilities. Before coming to EMA, Charles was a field engineer at Apache Controls where he assisted with project startups and equipment checkout for beverage can conveyor system control systems and designed beverage can manufacturing equipment control systems.

Manager, Process and Facilities Electrical
Craig Thingvold has been involved in performing power system studies since 2006 and has been with Excel Engineering since 2007. His expertise is in the area of arc flash, short circuit and coordination studies and also in the area of transmission planning and analysis, including dynamic and steady state analysis. He is a graduate of North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (power option) and a graduate of North Dakota State College of Science with an Associate in Science Degree in Pre-Engineering. Prior to Excel Engineering, Craig interned for Lightowler Johnson Associates where he was responsible for designing electrical systems for commercial and residential buildings and also worked as an electrician on commercial and residential electrical systems through Bergstrom Electric, Inc. Manager, Controls and Automation
Justin Nielsen has been involved in controls and automation engineering since 1999 and has a strong background in areas of pharmaceutical, chemical, and power generation. Justin performed the lead control system engineering on several multi-million dollar control system upgrade projects for Praxair and 3M, he was a lead onsite control system engineer at the Genmab Brooklyn Park, MN facility and was also a Technical Consultant for Rockwell Automation. Justin is highly skilled in several PLC, HMI and DCS platforms including: Rockwell, Emerson DeltaV, Schneider and Siemens. Justin holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. He is an ISA member, an ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) and a Registered Professional Control Systems Engineer in the State of Minnesota , as well as other states. Business & Employee Staff Development Specialist
Krista Nielsen joined Excel Engineering in 2010 to focus on business and staff development. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY in 1999. She joined Automationtechies in Eden Prairie, MN in 2006 as a technical recruiter after spending over five years working at Praxair, Inc. in Buffalo, NY, where she held roles in validation and control system engineering. In 2005, Krista also obtained her Masters of Business Administration degree from Medaille College in Buffalo, NY.

Client Services Project Manager
Lyle Gave joined Excel Engineering in June 2016 bringing forty years of hands on industrial electrical and supervisory experience to the organization. Lyle began his electrical trade career providing repair services for electro-mechanical equipment. In 1983, Lyle joined 3M Company as an electrician where he performed preventative maintenance and vibration analysis, as well as worked as a process planner for call in shop work orders. His career continued at 3M until his recent retirement shortly before joining Excel Engineering. Lyle held various positions at 3M as an electrician and process planner, eventually moving to a supervisory role at 3M Center planning maintenance outages and assisting with preventative maintenance. Lyle’s knowledge and experience is a great addition to the Excel team.
Manager - Industrial Automation
Pat Supanich has joined Excel Engineering serving in the role of Industrial Automation Manager. Pat comes to Excel after developing a diverse background in the industry. Pat started his professional career in 1996 when he joined 3M Company working in their internal automation group serving the 3M Medical Division. In early 2000, he relocated to a 3M medical plant in Irvine, CA where he served as a Resident Systems Engineer and Plant Engineering Supervisor. He left 3M in late 2002 and took a year sabbatical to travel the world with his spouse. Upon his return, he was given the opportunity to start a local office in Minneapolis for a System Integrator. There he grew the Minneapolis office to nine engineers and became the Director of Food and Beverage Division, where he oversaw offices in Minneapolis, Dallas, St Louis and Greenville, SC. In 2012, Pat went to work with Automation Resources, which consisted of Automation.com, an online magazine for the industry, and Automationtechies, a recruiting agency. While there, he served as Vice President and focused on improving their operations and profitability. He also served as a fill in editor, publisher and contributing writer to the publication. After Automation.com group was sold in late 2014, Pat focused his efforts on the recruiting side of the business until he left to join Excel Engineering.
Pat grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a BSEE degree in 1996. He is married and lives in SW Minneapolis with his wife and their two kids. Pat enjoys spending time with family and friends, outdoor activities such as canoeing and backpacking, traveling, working on his old VW Campervan and doing “projects” around the house which will all be finished “soon”.

Perry Kuznar has over 34 years of engineering and sales experience in the power utility, engineering services and manufacturing industries. He most recently served as Principle Applications Engineer for Turbine Technologies, Ltd. of Chetek, Wisconsin; a manufacturer of high-end laboratory training equipment for engineering universities and technical institutes.
Perry’s broad experience includes; product hardware development, operator manual /curriculum development, factory-direct global product sales, establishing sales rep alliances and developing sales and marketing strategies and tools. He has traveled extensively domestically and internationally to support sales, including a successful trip across China to establish in-country representation and make sales presentations to leading universities.
Perry received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and is a Registered Professional Engineer. He also obtained a Supervisory Management diploma from Chippewa Valley Technical College-Eau Claire.
Perry is married to Kathleen and they have two daughters and a son. He enjoys long-distance cycling, running and flying.
