Intro
A large industrial manufacturing Client requires ongoing annual arc flash, coordination and device evaluation studies to be performed throughout their major manufacturing / research facility in Maplewood, MN.
Challenge
This expansive site has approximately 80 power system models requiring review every four years. Each year a portion of these models is reviewed and updated as needed.
Solution
Excel Engineering is a preferred supplier for this service, and is responsible for providing the 4 year reviews and major updates to the power system models. Per year, studies are broken down into a series of smaller studies planned and executed considering the building preventative maintenance shutdown. Activities include
- Gathering data
- Updating power system models
- Printing/applying arc flash labels
- Reporting and recommending improving system coordination and reducing arc flash hazards
- Updating site panel schedules and one-line diagrams
Results
For the most recent year, approximately 2,500 devices were included in the review. All devices were verified and received new arc flash labels. Studies include multiple site visits by qualified Excel engineers.
